Roddy Doyle (38) is one of Ireland's most popular young writers and definitely one of the funniest. He is a man with a great sense of humour and a style of writing seldom seen in the works of other writers. His originality and wit can be read in all his books. He has a 'down to earth' outlook on life and portrays this refreshing perspective in his novels.
He is a modest writer and always has time to help out his writer friends when ever he can - whether with advice or publications. He was a book lover from a very young age and still holds a strong passion of books and reading. His outlook on writing is, "If writers want to write, they want to write, and they should be left alone, I am no mentor and I don't think I'd be doing anyone any favours if I said, - come on, lets do it this way - we'll leave the cloning to the sheep."
Two of his most popular novels are 'The Snapper', and 'The Van' (both of which successful films have been made), and are perfect examples of his style. He takes the ordinary lives of middle class Dublin people and makes their daily routine into an exciting story by bringing in extra dimensions and outlooks to a life style that is normally looked down upon in society His observations of life are written in his novels and his clear perception of situations give him the freedom to write in the original, witty and admirable style.
